Hot off the heels of the 'Paranoid Recordings Volume 10' compilation in October, the long standing hardcore breaks label offers up another free release, this time a 6 track joint EP from artists 1st science and Mellow Dee.
1st Science begins the 'Main Event EP' with the uplifting, hands-in-the-air piano fest, 'Coming Up Good (Vocal Mix)' which adds classic breakbeat vibes to some very cheekily soul vocal sampling. 'Ghetto Bastard' follows next and brings a hip-hop hardcore attitude, with some clever usage of explicit and killer dubby effects. 'Juno Bass' rounds off 1st Science's offerings with an authentic oldskool bassline and crunching breaks to great effect.
EP partner, Mellow Dee provides some smooth oldskool, jazzy atmospheric jungle on 'Jazz Monk', which combines mellow Rhodes keys with gentle piano licks and relaxed, yet rolling breaks. 'Cats Eye Nebula' steps into deeper, darker jungle territory with twisted, foghorn bass blasts and rugged amens. Final track of the EP, 'After Hours' provides a 1993, junglistic take on the hardcore sound and borrows nicely from Baby D too.
